What Are Connected Vehicles?

Today, vehicles connect to sophisticated, high-bandwidth networks that enable new capabilities and opportunities for improving traffic, safety, and the overall car-ownership experience.

Crashes caused 42,915 fatalities in 2021, the highest number since 2006. Connected vehicles could significantly reduce crashes while also improving traffic efficiency.*

IoT provides the ability to utilize adaptive cruise control, automatically plan routes based on real-time conditions, and reroute traffic away from congestion. It can also enable road signage to automatically update according to traffic conditions and notify drivers about crash sites and hazards. In the face of danger, connected vehicles have automatic braking technology to prevent collisions.

The connected vehicle can be turned on or off with a smartphone. It can share diagnostic data and remind the owner about upcoming service requirements, such as oil changes. If the vehicle is stolen, it can share its location. The owner can use an app to flash headlights in the parking lot so that the car stands out. The surface is just being scratched when it comes to the possibilities of connected vehicles.
